ATTENDEES: Bill Bryant, Mike Dayton, John Lee Ellis, Robert Fry, Susan France, Don Hamilton, Lois Springsteen, Tim Sullivan, Mark Thomas, Jennifer Wise
- Terry Zmrhal steps down from RUSA Board, to pursue interests and commitments such as becoming Race Director of RAAM (the Race Across America) this year. Lois Springsteen will fill his position, as next highest vote-getter in the previous election. John Lee Ellis, VP, will fill Terry~s role as Secretary.
- New Events Approved for Nashville, Dallas, San Diego, and Westfield MA.
- Paris-Brest-Paris
- Registration process update - RUSA processing was complete by July 8; paper documents (photos, doctors note, insurance, etc.) shipped to ACP in four express-mail shipments with tracking; the ACP sent out e-mail acknowledgements.
- US Participant details (Mark) - Riders from 39 states plus DC and 13 from Puerto Rico. States with largest representation: 153 from California (fewer from Davis than in past years, as there are now more California series), 60 from Washington. Riders from 148 member clubs, 85 women (13%, well above the historical total PBP percentages), ten 5th finish riders, 6 6th finish riders; 13 recumbents.
- Kudos to Jennifer Wise for processing 632 rider applications, Lois Springsteen for expediting the processing of a large quantity of brevet results, and Don Bennett for posting the list of all those 632 riders quickly on the website.
- RUSA PBP Jersey - Seems very popular: already several sizes twice have sold out and had to be reordered, a marked change over 2003.
- Quadrennial Randonneur Mondiaux Meeting - To be held in Paris on 8/25 (after PBP). RUSA will propose that (1) that country organizations (such as RUSA) sanction their regions" 1200k"s, and (2) that up to 15 days prior to an event be allowed for a staff pre-ride - the current limit is 8 days. [Both proposals passed.]
-
RUSA 10th Anniversary Planning
- Events - RBAs encouraged to hold an event on the weekend of August 16-17, 2008, the tenth anniversary of RUSA"s founding.
- Medals - A commemorative medal will be offered for riders of events on that weekend.
- Flèche Rules modification re: start location - Because of ACP reporting requirements, if multiple teams are starting in the same location as shown on the results, their start-time will need to be staggered. If in fact they are starting some distance apart (e.g., different suburbs of a metropolitan area) then distinct start location names should be used.
